"Coal in the Loi-An Group of Late Triassic–Jurassic age in southern Shan State occurs as lenses or irregular seams up to 0.5 m thick, affected by folding and faulting. The coal from Loi-An is cokeable and contains 0.6–6.5% moisture; it has an ash content of between 10% and 74%; samples with <10% ash contain between 24% and 24% volatiles; the Cfix content is 59.7%; the sulphur content is between 0.3% and 0.7%; and the calorific value is 6340–6420 kcal kg−1 (Bender 1983). Although the Loi-An coal is of high quality, it is not MINERALIZATION STYLES AND SETTING IN MYANMAR 541 economically extractable as the coal seams are strongly folded and faulted."
